Stella van Voorst van Beest
studied Social History at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam and Documentary and Editing at the Netherlands Film and Television Academy in Amsterdam

She directed several short and long documentaries, including The Umbrella Factory (1999), It’s Not Gonna Work (2001), Pig (2002), Building Blocks (2004), Prisoners of the Ground (2009, closing film NFF).
Her films were shown on TV, at festivals home and abroad (including IFFR/Rotterdam, Bafici/Buenos Aires, TIFF/Tirana) and as part of art installations at, for example, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen and the Kunsthal in Rotterdam (Toys of Gloom and Building Blocks).

Her films are characterised by an observing style, capturing the daily life of people and their surroundings with a keen eye for detail.

In addition to her work as a director, she works as an editor on several long and short documentaries and experimental films, including recently Ataraxia (2012, Sander Blom), Met extra liefde (2011, Paul Cohen, Martijn van Haalen, Uur van de Wolf) and DWARS (2009, Marieke van der Winden NCRV Document).
